The Charing Cross Methodist Neighbourhood Centre was officially launched on 12th January 1994. It has been many years in the making. The church was built in 1960 but a purpose built youth centre and adventure playground was added later. Both the youth club and the play scheme are well used by local people.

 

The youth and play work is a partnership between Wirral Educational, Cultural and Youth services and the Church. This is managed by a joint management committee made up of representatives of the above and local people. There are three main aspects to our work, they are the lighthouse special needs youth club, for young people age 11 to 25 The open youth club for local young people age 11 to 18 and our play scheme for Children aged 5 to 14 years

 

We offer a wide range of activities and are committed to promoting a greater awareness of issues affecting young people today

 

We are affiliated to MAYC, the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs, a network of thousands of Methodist clubs around the country, The Youth Federation, and Wirral Play Council.

 

All are welcome provided that they respect one another. We have an equal opportunities statement and a member's charter, written with the help of our young people. There's a rolling programme of activities from Life Skills, Arts & Crafts, Sports & Games through to Outdoor Pursuits like Rock Climbing and Canoeing. We also arrange several trips out to places like Blackpool and Alton Towers and arrange a couple of short residential weekends during the year.

 

The play scheme gets it’s name from the old Dolphin Sports Club that operated out of Livingston Street swimming baths before it closed. The Dolphin club ran for many years out of Charing Cross before it’s leader, Ron Archer, died. We are happy to be associated with the name
